Data Alchemy: A Non-Profit Initiative to Empower Young Data Enthusiasts in India

At 5X, our mission has always been to make data simple for businesses. Tarush and I started 5X three years ago as a simple idea: a 12-week educational program aimed at helping startup CEOs develop their data strategies and make data-driven business decisions. Since then, we've grown into a leading data consultancy and SaaS platform provider, accumulating deep expertise in solving real-world business challenges across various industries. Our journey has taught us that empowering individuals with data skills is the key to unlocking true innovation.

Through our consultancy work, we've had the privilege of hiring and training some of the best data engineers in the industry, offering higher salaries than the market average. In the process, we've witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by aspiring data engineers.

While many young engineers possess raw talent and enthusiasm, they often lack the guidance and support needed to translate their potential into marketable skills. This is particularly true as the hiring process increasingly emphasizes practical experience and communication abilities. Moreover, the high cost of professional training programs in India further exacerbates these challenges for young talents to jumpstart their data careers.

Being one of the first data engineers at Salesforce, Tarush has been deeply inspired by Salesforce’s 1-1-1 model, which commits 1% of our equity, technology, and employees’ time to build a more equitable and sustainable world.

Fueled by a deep sense of gratitude and a desire to give back, we are excited to launch Data Alchemy (powered by 5X), a non-profit initiative designed for aspiring data professionals in India. This program is our commitment to empowering young talent with the practical skills and knowledge they need to secure high-paying jobs and build fulfilling careers.

A New Approach to Data Education

Data Alchemy is a non-profit initiative focused on community impact and education. The program is designed to be accessible and affordable, with a nominal fee that is entirely donated to data literacy initiatives in India.

It is an 8-week online program that offers real-world problem statements and capstone group projects that are directly applicable to the job market. This provides students with practical experience that will help them secure their first jobs.
